JUNE 25: LG Manoj Sinha said that the Emergency was the most inhuman act in Indian democratic history citing that the soul of country was crushed and civil liberties were attacked.
While inaugurating the 1975 Emergency Exhibition at Convention Centre, Jammu, LG Manoj Sinha termed the day as the “Darkest Period” in India’s democratic history and said Constitutional safeguards were violated and dreams of nation-building were buried.
LG Sinha added, “While commemorating the torturous events to honor victims of Emergency who made numerous sacrifices to safeguard constitutional values, we must resolve to deepen the foundations of our democracy and work with complete dedication for greater success of our nation.”
Severely reprimanding the Emergency period, LG said, “I consider Emergency to be the most inhuman act of Indian democratic history and today’s observation of ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ is also an opportunity for deep reflection and reaffirmation of commitment to democratic values and constitutional morality.”
